Northeastern Claims 44th Women's Beanpot Tournament With 2-1 Win Over Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - In the championship game of the 44th annual Women's Beanpot, the No. 5 Northeastern University Huskies (28-2-1) defeated the No. 15/RV Boston College Eagles (18-13-1) by a score of 2-1 at Conte Forum on Tuesday evening. The win gave the Huskies their record 18th Beanpot Championship, and their second in the last three tournaments.

- Northeastern earned an early power play 7:56 into the first period on a BC holding minor. With the power play winding down, Skylar Irving skated the puck behind the Eagles' net and found Megan Carter at the top of the faceoff circle. Carter's shot was tipped up and over the BC netminder by Mia Brown, bouncing off the crossbar and in, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead 9:20 into the game.

- It was Mia Brown's seventh goal of the season and Megan Carter's 15th assist.

- The Huskies finished the first period with a 13-6 shot advantage.

- Northeastern extended its lead 7:40 into the second period when a shot by Jules Constantinople from between the faceoff circles was sent towards the net, and it was tipped and redirected into the net by Maureen Murphy on its way by. It was Murphy's 18th goal of the season.

- The Eagles fought back to reduce their shot deficit in the second frame but the Huskies still held a 16-10 advantage in the period, leading 29-16 at the second intermission.

- Boston College came out firing in the third, leading in shots 8-3 over halfway into the period. The Huskies defense, backstopped by Gwyneth Philips, held strong to keep BC off the board at even strength.

- With just under 3 minutes remaining in regulation, Boston College pulled goaltender Abigail Levy to the bench for the extra attacker. The Eagles tallied an extra-attacker goal with 1:34 left on the clock, when Hannah Bilka slotted home a shot to cut the lead to one.

- The Huskies closed out the remainder of the game down a player when BC once again pulled Levy. The Huskies cleared the puck with just over 10 seconds to go, closing out the victory.

- Earning the Bertagna Award for the tournament's most outstanding goaltender was Northeastern's Gwyneth Philips, stopping 53 of 55 shots faced in the tournament, 27 in the title game. Maureen Murphy was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player with three goals and one assist through the two games, including the game-winning goal in the championship.

- It's the Huskies first victory over BC in a Beanpot championship game since the 2013 finals, where the Huskies prevailed 4-3. It was the eighth meeting of the two sides in the championship round, with NU now holding a 5-3 advantage all-time against the Eagles in the final round.

The Huskies have just two games left in their regular season, facing a home and home with Boston University this Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will take place at Walter Brown Arena, and Saturday's contest will mark Northeastern's Senior Night at Matthews Arena. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. puck drop on ESPN+.
